Support the recording of G. F. Handel's Messiah!

IGG MESSIAHAfter successful and internationally renowned recordings of Bach's Mass in B Minor, Zelenka's Missa Divi Xaverii and others, Collegium 1704 is working on a new project – the first Czech complete recording of Messiah – a masterpiece composed by George Friedrich Händel.

Händel’s Messiah is unquestionably one of the most famous works of the worldwide oratorio literature, and over the centuries it has become a part of England’s cultural identity. It is not surprising that tens of Messiah recordings exist and the discography of this oratorio works as a good example of an evolution of the baroque music interpretation. From the first recordings with a large cast, an extremely slow tempo and a pathetic expression till the contemporary recording approach, the interpretation has changed dramatically. First historically informed recordings were revolutionary works by Christopher Hogwood (1979) and John Eliot Gardiner (1982) - they were followed by a number of recordings made with the respect for interpretative practices, especially those of the British provenience.

A noteworthy fact is the absolute absence of the Czech interpretative tradition of Handel's Messiah. On the occasion of the fourth performance of Messiah within the season 2017/2018 of Collegium 1704 held in the Rudolfinum in Prague, we decided to provide the very first complete CD recording of this composition.

Collegium 1704 has performed Messiah for the very first time in 2011 in the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu. In Spring 2018, we have recorded two Messiah performances in the Rudolfinum, Prague. Now, we are approaching to finish the recording and to release the first Czech live recording of this Handel's masterpiece. However, this will not happen without your help.

The total cost of making this live recording will be in excess of 39 000 EUR.
This exceptional project will require the combined forces of everyone who cares about the fate of Handel’s music, and every contribution towards the realization of the recording is of invaluable assistance!
