Music Bridge Prague — Dresden 2011

We will commence the autumn portion of the 2011 — 2012 season with the music of a composer who has now become a symbol of the Music Bridge Prague — Dresden. The Missa votiva is one of the most important and most beautiful works of Jan Dismas Zelenka, and for us, it is a work of special importance. It was the starting point for our interest in Zelenka’s music, as well as the starting point for the history of the Music Bridge.

When we performed the Missa votive in Prague as part of the Prague Spring Festival and in Dresden as part of the Dresdner Musikfestspiele, we were fascinated to begin with by how beautiful this music is, and from this there emerged the idea of repeating such double concerts in Prague and Dresden.

Zelenka’s music will also be heard at the end of the year, when we will be performing his magnificent Te Deum for double chorus in the worthy company of Bach’s Magnificat. The public will again be invited on the traditional musical excursions abroad, and you will also be able to admire the refined beauty of French music on the programme Le Parnasse françois and

the boundless fantasy of 17th century Italian composers on the programme Capriccio stravagante.
