season 2018 19

Season 2018 | 19 — Prague

With the exception of one “serenade” evening, the 2018—19 season, when we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Music
Bridge Prague — Dresden, will be devoted exclusively to sacred music in its diverse forms. The performance of Biber’s Missa Salisburgensis
at the opening concert of the season will be a special event on the special premises of the St. Vitus Cathedral. We have long dreamed of giving a Prague performance of this work, which we first performed in 2016 at the Salzburg Festival, and we are glad that we are now able to present this impressive composition to the Czech public for the first time. At the opposite extreme of dramaturgy and of the concert season, we find yet another masterpiece of Baroque music — a performance of the St Matthew Passion is always a major event for both the performers and the audience.
We are pleased that in the coming season we are continuing with the tradition of inviting guest conductors and that on the occasion of a complete performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, we are able to introduce the Dutch conductor Peter Dijkstra, who is coming to Prague with his outstanding choir the Nederlands Kamerkoor and a group of excellent soloists. The name of our emblematic composer Jan Dismas Zelenka cannot be omitted from the dramaturgy for our new season, and our New Year’s Eve celebration will take place in the spirit of Venice in the company of the redheaded priest Antonio Vivaldi
