Music Bridge Prague – Dresden 2012

In 2012, the programming of Music Bridge Prague — Dresden will followseveral mutually intertwining paths. The very  rst concert of the series,titled Roman Oratorio, is dedicated to the emergence of a genre that left animportant mark on the musical history of Dresden. We will commemoratethe 200th anniversary of the death of Dresden’s composer Joseph Schusterwith the modern premiere of his oratorio La passione di Gesù Cristo.Italian taste, which signi cantly molded the musical features of Pragueand Dresden in the 17th and 18th centuries, will be presented in twoguises. The music to be heard on the programme Virtuoso Concertos isrepresentative of the repertoire of Dresden’s court ensemble, and theprogramme Prague Vespers will feature music that was heard in Praguechurches in the  rst half of the 18th century. We are pleased that theDresdner Kammerchor has accepted the invitation to participate ina joint performance of this programme, and we believe that this projectwill open the door to further cooperation. We will not be overlookingthe music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, the patron of the ensembleand the symbol of Music Bridge Prague — Dresden, whose last mass,Missa omnium sanctorum, will launch the autumn portion of the cycle.There will also be no lack of major opuses of baroque music, representedby J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio.
