Lars Ulrik Mortensen closes the actual season of Collegium 1704

lars ulrik mortensenJ. S. Bach's St John Passion closes the actual season of Collegium 1704 in the Rudolfinum in Prague on 6 and 7 April 2017. This time the orchestra will be exceptionally led by the famed Danish conductor and harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen.

Bach´s St John Passion has been preserved in several versions, and unlike his St Matthew Passion, the definitive form of the St John Passion remains a great mystery. Nonetheless, the work has held a place of prominence among the many portrayals of the story of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ thanks to its supremely effective and dramatic expression.

The St John Passion has been in the repertoire of Collegium 1704 since the ensemble´s founding, and the latest performance will be a special presentation by the famed Danish conductor and harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen, an artistic director of generally renowed Concerto Copenhagen. It is a very first collaboration of Collegium 1704 with this energetic conductor arranged as in April, Václav Luks — conductor and founder of Collegium 1704 — will conduct the Nederlandse Bachvereniging (https://www.bachvereniging.nl/nederlandse-bachvereniging) during its 3-week long concert tour with J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion.

Collegium 1704 under the baton of Lars Ulrik Mortensen will also close by St John Passion its actual season in Dresden, Germany — on 8 April in Annenkirche in Dresden.
