concert series is now entering its third season enhanced by a number of new features and with a new name
The Collegium 1704 concert series is now entering its third season enhanced by a number of new features and with a new name: Collegium 1704 in the Rudolfinum. Again we have invited some extraordinary singing celebrities for three programmes of differing styles. In addition to Bejun Mehta, the most acclaimed countertenor of our times and for the first time ever we shall present as part of our cycle the charm of French Baroque music in cooperation with the first lady of the French Baroque, Sandrine Piau. The other half of the total of six concerts will be devoted to a series of three festive masses, the performance of one of which, Czech premiere of Zelenka’s Missa Divi Xaverii,
will be an extraordinary historic moment. This work will shine out as a counterpoint to Bach’s Magnificat. Bach will then return to the Rudolfinum again in spring in the form of his monumental Mass in B minor, which will then also be heard in the summer of 2015 as interpreted by Collegium 1704 as part of the Salzburger Festspiele. The performance of this unique work will at the same time serve as a celebration of the ten years of existence of the orchestral and vocal ensembles Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704. This tripartite constellation of festive masses will be rounded out by Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor, a work of immense emotional depth and power.
