New Year's Eve Concert
Rudolfinum - Dvořák Hall
31 / 12 / 2017

Eternal Fire

Italian tastes were the predominant influence on the music cultivated at the Dresden court, and the influence of the modern Neapolitan style is also unmistakable in the late works of Jan Dismas Zelenka. A copy of the magnificently conceived Dixit Dominus for double choir by one of the most famous Neapolitan composers, Leonardo Leo, was made for use by the Dresden court church near the end of the Zelenka era, and the work is to be heard in its modern-era world premiere. Just as magnificently luminous as Leo’s psalm setting are Bach’s celebratory cantatas representing the music of another important musical center of Saxony — Leipzig.
