The season 2020—21 will be inaugurated by one of the most famous works in the history of music, Handel’s Messiah, and this “messianic” spirit pervades the dramaturgy of the whole concert series. The unconventional programme of the Advent concert will recreate the atmosphere of Italian Baroque Christmas and we shall celebrate the arrival of the New Year with Mozart’s Coronation Mass.

Together with VOSTO5 theatre company and Kino Pilotů cinema, the Collegium 1704 is going to present a new venue for cultural events, rehearsals, lectures and community gatherings. The former 1920´s cinema VZLET in Prague 10 is going to open for public in Spring 2021. Through a crowd-funding campaign on the platform Donio we managed to raise 1 251 218 CZK. We are going to use the means for the necessary sound and light equipment and for visitor facilities, such as the cloakroom, the foyer, and the café. Thanks to all contributors!

Final concert of the first season of Baroque Opera Starts with Véronique Gens

GensThe French soprano Véronique Gens will be guest in the final concert of the first season of Baroque Opera Starts. Under the motto “Opera Revolution” Véronique Gens and Collegium 1704 will perform under the musical direction of Václav Luks compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Christoph Willibald Gluck and Josef Mysliveček. The concert will take place at the 7th of May, 7.30 pm, at the Rudolfinum in Prague.

Véronique Gens made her debut in 1986 as member of the ensemble Les Arts Florissants. Within a short period of time she earned a reputation of belonging to the best interpreters of Baroque music of her time. Véronique Gens worked together with her patron William Christie as well as with conductors like René Jacobs and Philippe Herreweghe. Her second field beside Baroque is the repertoire of Mozart. In the year 2002 the soprano was nominated for a Victoire de la Musique as best singer of the year.
