Season 2019-2020 in Prague and Dresden could be described as a season of oratorios. Collegium 1704 performed perhaps the most famous work in the genre, Handel´s Messiah, and also Stradella’s San Giovanni Battista and Handel’s La Resurrezione. For the very first time, audiences in Prague and Dresden could hear Vivaldi’s opera Arsilda, regina di Ponto in a live performance.

> More PRAGUE DRESDEN
Due to emergency measures issued by the Czech government, we had to cancel or postpone several concerts in Prague, both Rudolfinum and chamber series - as well as abroad. Although we cannot meet our audience live at concerts at the moment, Collegium 1704 has grand plans for the future. In order to realize them, we need your support more than ever.

TRIO SONATAS BY J. D. ZELENKA AT THE SPECIAL CONCERT IN PRAGUE AND DRESDEN

C1704 web 1024 457 1116 La Virtuosissima EN v1At the beginning of December, there will be performed at the advent concert trio sonatas - compositions extraordinarily demanding for interpreteurs which is also intended to be released in the new CD of Collegium 1704. The concert programme will be enriched by cantatas sung by Soprano Rafaella Milanesi.

This collection of six sonatas by Jan Dismas Zelenka is composed — with the exception of the third sonata that employs the violin — for a pair of oboes, bassoon, and basso continuo. In the context of Baroque chamber music, this represents a true rarity. Here, Zelenka elevates the sonata da camera to a genre of enormous technical difficulty for the performers, making especially great demands on the wind players, and the composer confronts his listeners with a most intimately personal statement.

Besides these instrumental baroque compositions, there will be performed cantatas by G. F. Handel and A. Steffani performed by Rafaella Milanesi - a Soprano singer regularly cooperating with Collegium 1704 (recently at the concert closing the season 2016-17).
