The season 2020—21 will be inaugurated by one of the most famous works in the history of music, Handel’s Messiah, and this “messianic” spirit pervades the dramaturgy of the whole concert series. The unconventional programme of the Advent concert will recreate the atmosphere of Italian Baroque Christmas and we shall celebrate the arrival of the New Year with Mozart’s Coronation Mass.

Modern premiere of Hasse's oratorio in November

Santa Elena 4x3"I don't believe in the myth of rightful sieve of time," says Václav Luks about the upcoming modern premiere of oratorio by Johann Adolf Hasse

On 18 and 19 November in Prague Crossroads and on 20 November in Dresden Annenkirche, there will be oratorio Santa Elena al Calvario by Johann Adolf Hasse performed for the first time in more than 250 years. It's a work of a composer whose name became synonymous with the triupmh of eighteenth-century Italian opera: no other composer enjoyed as unanimously high a reputation across Europe during his lifetime as Johann Adolf Hasse. This is also one of the reasons why his work shouldn't be hidden from today's audience.

The Collegium 1704 concert season 2015–16 will then continue with the now traditional Christmas on 15 December where the internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg will sing in Handel’s cantata Donna, che in ciel, HWV 233. The New Year concert will be devoted to J. S. Bach’s profane cantatas, and for Easter you can look forward to Handel’s magnificent Messiah. This season Collegium 1704 are also breaking new ground with concert performances of operas, launching what should become a tradition with Henry Purcell’s iconic adaptation of Virgil’s drama Dido and Aeneas in February.
