Special concert
Prague Crossroads - church of St. Anne
24 / 6 / 2020

Secular cantatas form an important part of Handel's oeuvre, especially from the Italian period. Each of these works is in a sense an opera in miniature and Handel endowed them with all his dramatic flair and the boundless fantasy of his youthful genius. With one exception (the Italian cantata Non sa che sia dolore, BWV 209), all Bach's secular cantatas are settings of German texts. Apart from festive cantatas composed for various official occasions, Bach also wrote several charming cantatas with a humorous subtext, and the Coffee Cantata BWV 211 is undoubtedly the most famous one.
