Whenever Johann Sebastian Bach devoted himself to a musical form, he mastered it perfectly. This also applies to his six choral motets, most of which are written in the double choir style. The joyously jubilant motet Singet dem Herrn, the calming Fürchte Dich nicht and Komm, Jesu, komm, full of hope and surrender, are among the gems of vocal music. The important collection of twenty-seven responsories for Holy Week of 1723 demonstrates the brilliant counterpoint and the depth of emotion of the music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, the greatest Czech composer of the Baroque era.
